  I also bought this on sale for and took it on vacation. It worked great. I was able to preprogram all of our hotels and points of interest and had no trouble finding any of them. It acquired the satellite signals quickly and was easy to follow. The only disappointment was that it wasn’t very useful for walking around town. It did not properly detect our movements and was hard to use for viewing street maps – to be fair, this is not what it’s designed to do and it worked fine for it’s intended purpose, driving navigation. All in all, a good value.

Before you buy, you may want to know that map updates are available (if necessary) for free during the first 30 days after purchase. After that, map updates are , which seems high. That is almost the current cost of the GPS new. I had to update it as soon as I bought it and customer service was excellent. They sent me a SD card with the update and I received it 4 days after I called.

To do the update, you have to update the firmware first. If not, the update will not work and you will need help. You update it by downloading the firmware update file from their web site, then connect the GPS to your USB port and withing a few minutes, it is done. You can do that before you get the SD map update. When you get the SD card, just insert it, push the reset button, and you are updated.

I does a good job of receiving the GPS signals and does an OK job of selecting routes. It does not have a lot of the bells and whistles of some other GPS systems, but it seems to be reliable and works well for the price.

I have bought 2 other GPS’s and have returned them both. I bought 3 of these for Christmas gifts (one for myself). This is the only one that has ever worked and been easy to use. I LOVE the fact that you can remove it and take it with you on trips and sit in a restaurant and figure things out. Very Very easy to use. It’s like having a personal computer with you where ever you go. My kids love theirs also.
