I read some bad reviews about Squaretrade, but am pleased to say that my experience with my them was not too bad at all.
For about , I purchased a warranty for a refurbished Xbox 360 console that I purchased from a seller on eBay in December 2008. Purchasing a used 360 was my first mistake, and I had to return 3 of them to the original seller within the first 4 months before they sent me one that was stable. My 4th Xbox from this eBay seller lasted, ironically, until December 2009, at which time I entered a claim at Squaretrade and purchased a new console at Gamestop in the mean time.
It was hard to explain my issue in writing because the console was acting REALLY abnormal and did not have just one error that I could adequately explain. Squaretrade sent me an automated email suggestion, telling me to call Microsoft and try to get them to fix my console for free since it might be the 3 red light E74 error. It wasn’t the E74 error, so I tried calling Squaretrade’s 800 hotline to speak to someone and explain my issue directly. Unfortunately, being right after Christmas, their hotlines were absolutely FLOODED with people because I waited about 20 minutes on the phone to speak with one person who then put me on hold- again. I hung up at that point and decided to send another email.
After my second email was sent, explaining that their suggestion wouldn’t apply in my case, I got an email within 48 hours saying that I was approved for the full claim amount on my defective console- awesome. I was then provided a free shipping label to use at UPS, paid a minimal amount for packaging and handling (about ), and sent my console to them. I live in eastern Pennsylvania and they received it in Texas in 5-7 days. A few days after it was received and looked over, I received another email, saying that I was approved for a payment, which came in another two days.
Overall turn around time for the claim was about 2 weeks, start to finish, from the time the first email was sent to the time I received my Paypal payment for the claim amount. It was definitely well spent because my money was refunded with no problem. I’d consider purchasing another warranty from them again.
